چکیده

This paper describes the first proof-of-concept implementation of the IndiQoS architecture: a system that intends to support the seamless integration of QoS provision in publish-subscribe systems. A unique feature of the IndiQoS architecture, is that applications are structured following the publish-subscribe paradigm and express QoS parameters with constructs similar to those used to handle other aspects of the data flow, such as the ones used to express interest in a particular subject or content. Although we aim to build a system that is able to manage different QoS mechanisms at the network and operating system level, the current paper focus on the use of RSVP and integrated services in the IndiQoS architecture. Two main aspects are studied: definition of QoS parameters for use by publishsubscribe applications and optimal assignment of data network resources for a given configuration of publishers and subscribers.

A New Proposal for RSVP Refreshes

As a soft-state protocol, RSVP specifies that each RSVP node sends periodic control messages to maintain the state for active RSVP sessions. The protocol overhead due to such periodic messages grows linearly with the number of RSVP sessions. One may reduce the overhead by using a longer refresh period, which unfortunately leads to longer delays in re-synchronizing RSVP state. In this paper we i...

Enhancing RSVP Scalability

The current resource Reservation Protocol (RSVP) design has no reliability mechanism for the delivery of control messages. Instead, RSVP relies on periodic refresh between routers to maintain reservation states. This approach has several problems in a congested network. End systems send PATH and RESV messages to set up RSVP connections. If the first PATH or RESV message from an end system is ac...

Staged Refresh Timers for RSVP

In the current RSVP design [2], there is no reliability mechanism for control message delivery. Instead RSVP relies on periodic refresh between routers to maintain reservation states. If the first PATH or RESV message is accidentally lost, an upstream router w...

RSVP Standards Today and the Path Towards a Generic Messenger

The Resource Reservation Protocol (RSVP) specified in RFC2205 has evolved from ST-II (RFC1819) to provide end-to-end QoS signaling services for application data streams. Hosts use RSVP to request a specific quality of service (QoS) reservation from the network for particular application flows. RSVP maintains and refreshes reservation states in routers for a requested QoS application flow. By or...
